About Deepak Kaul

I grew up in a very small town, and my early life taught me that uncertainty can either limit you—or shape you.Due to geopolitical challenges in North India, parts of my schooling took place in tents. That experience instilled resilience, curiosity, and the courage to keep moving forward despite imperfect conditions. From there, I went on to complete my engineering in Computer Science from Mumbai University—a transition that helped me discover not just technology, but clarity about what I wanted from my career and how to stay true to it.Over the next decade, I built a strong engineering foundation across system integrators such as Tata Info Tech and IBM, along with a meaningful tenure working with the Indian Army on large-scale data networks. These years grounded me in operational rigor, scale, and responsibility. I have worn many hats—software developer, tester, Linux system administrator, and later leadership roles in security and identity. I spent close to six years in Identity & Access Management at IBM, followed by 4 years at Deutsche Bank within the CISO organization, where I led the rollout of Privileged Access Management across the bank—scaling a core engineering team from four to over 100+ engineers.At Barclays, I found the convergence of deep technology, long-term thinking, and people leadership. I had the privilege of starting and leading what became the Barclays Container Platform (formerly aPaaS)—a product envisioned to shift the organization from traditional hosting to a container-first model. What began as a small, cross-geography team grew into a large, high-impact platform, scaling from zero to over containers and enabling a fundamental change in how applications are built and run.After delivering BCP 1.0, I consciously chose to move beyond comfort and into the next challenge—Strategic Adoption Engineering. Today, I focus on challenging the status quo of how technology debt is handled, driving a shift from reactive remediation to proactive evergreening. We are building innovative solutions, including agentic AI–driven approaches, to remediate tech debt at scale—always committed to accountability, learning, and doing right by our colleagues, customers, and clients.Beyond technology, I am deeply passionate about sports, inclusion, and working with exceptionally enabled minds, including visually impaired and PwD communities. I believe leadership is about impact—elevating teams, sharing experiences, and leaving systems stronger than we found them.
