About Deepa Purohit

Deepa Purohit will make her Off-Broadway debut at The Atlantic Theater Company in New York City with the World Premiere of her play, ELYRIA in February 2023. She\'s a New Georges Audrey Resident (2022) and has been a member of Ma-Yi Writers Lab since 2014. She received her MFA in Playwriting at Brooklyn College in 2020, and has worked as an adjunct professor in theater at The New School\'s MFA Drama Program, The Borough of Manhattan Community College and Kingsborough Community College at the City University of New York. Deepa co-founded and ran Rising Circle Theater Collective for 12 years overseeing the development of over 20 plays by playwrights of color. She’s a trained actor, has a Masters in Public Health from Columbia University, and a BA in History from Northwestern University. She also founded her own communications coaching company, FINDING YOUR AUTHENTIC VOICE, INC. in 2012, with over 10 years of communications work in the education sector (public and nonprofit).

   The Director of New Works at People\'s Light provides artistic leadership and oversite of People’s Light’s (PL) New Play Frontiers (NPF) and Queerways, PA commission and residency programs, serves as the lead producer for The Kiln, a 2-week new project lab, and participates in select PL Artist Staff meetings to highlight the ways these efforts intersect with PL’s broader goals regarding artist cultivation and season planning.
