Pioneer a novel compression-hold and tension-based experimental methodology to evaluate in-situ adhesive bond strength and fracture toughness or tack response of Hexcel’s IM7/8552 thermoset carbon epoxy prepregs during Automated Tow/ Fiber Placement (ATP/ AFP), applying traction separation law and fracture mechanics principles.2. Architect a robust 3D test fixture to withstand high forces during rapid bonding and separation cycles while minimizing compliance in the setup. The optimized design reduced material and machining costs by 10%.3. Derive experimental traction separation parameters to develop a Multiphysics ATP process model employing a cohesive zone modeling (CZM) approach to simulate bond strength and defect formation during the ATP layup.4. Leverage in-situ traction-separation parameters from Mode I tack experiments to construct a master curve, validating the applicability of Time-Temperature Superposition (TTS) principle for thermoset prepreg tack behavior.
