I am a Specialist Divorce and Family Law Solicitor, Mediator & Collaborative lawyer based in North Yorkshire and the East Riding, I primarily specialises in complex financial cases and private children matters and am Head of Family department for Eccles Heddon Solicitors based in Thirsk, North Yorkshire. I was one of the first Family Lawyer Mediators in the UK qualifying in 1997 and have to date conducted over mediations with separating and divorcing couples. I am qualified to consult directly with children in mediation. As one of the pioneers of family mediation in the UK I am a member of Resolution’s prestigious accreditation panel of expert family lawyers and Family mediators. My unique style of litigation and dispute resolution skills attract client’s from throughout the UK & internationally mainly through personal recommendation.I am also an author. As a response to the withdrawal of legal aid for family cases in April 2013 I wrote and published How2divorce The Handbook, I am frequently requested to write for magazines, national and local newspapers and I am invited to comment on radio, particularly the BBC. I have also written articles about divorce and separation for Cosmopolitan and other leading magazines.As more couples are living together my work has developed into specialising in co-habitation cases. My latest Court of Appeal case of Liden v Burton [2016] EWCA Civ 275 2 March 2016 will have an adverse effect for those living together in the future.
