About Debra Rubin

An award-winning editor and writer, Debra Rubin spent most of her career in Jewish media. In recent years, she branched out and today is a news editor for Warren Communications News, publisher of Communications Daily, Communications Litigation Daily, Export Compliance Daily, International Trade Today and Trade Law Daily. Prior to joining Warren Communications full time, she also worked at Bluelight Strategies as editorial director, providing editing, website content, profiles, features, op-eds and research for varied Bluelight clients, as well as independently, including media outlets, advocacy groups, think tanks, corporations and communication firms. Her articles have appeared in such outlets as The Washington Post, The Huffington Post, JTA, Religion News Service and Bethesda Magazine. As the editor of Washington Jewish Week from to 2011, she managed a staff of six, in addition to a cadre of freelancers. During her tenure, she oversaw the “modernization” of the paper for the 21st century, launching its online presence, including its Facebook page, Twitter account and periodic SurveyMonkey engagements. In 2009, Rubin received a first-place Maryland-Delaware-DC Press Association Award for an editorial, “Symbol of tolerance, target of hate,” and shared in a first-place American Jewish Press Association Simon Rockower Award for Excellence in Jewish Journalism, given in news reporting for coverage of the June 2009 shooting at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum that left one guard dead. Prior to becoming editor of Washington Jewish Week, Rubin was managing editor of the New Jersey Jewish News. While in that role, she also served as president of the American Jewish Press Association from 1995 to 1998, demonstrating collaborative leadership skills and initiating the group’s first website. She remains an active member of the executive board. Rubin has won multiple awards for her editorials and feature stories, including from the MD-DE-DC Press Association, the American Jewish Press Association, the National Federation of Press Women and New Jersey Press Women.
