ABOUT DEBRA DAVIS

Debra is a director level communications and public affairs professional with over thirty five years’ experience at local, national, and international levels of government and in the private sector. She has developed and implemented communications, public affairs and public diplomacy strategies. Debra has experience in change management and internal communications; emergency, resilience and business continuity planning; campaign planning based on customer knowledge and market segmentation; news management and digital media. As Director of Public Affairs and Communications for Birmingham City Council, Debra was involved in a wide variety of issues including the communications support for redevelopment, and regeneration. She worked with strategic directors and partners who were responsible for children’s services, safeguarding, adults with learning disabilities, transformation of adult care, community cohesion, carbon reduction, transportation, housing and culture, leisure and sport. Based in London and as a Board Member of the Arab International Women’s Forum since 2001, Debra has long championed greater participation of women in business, public and community life in the Middle East. She managed – an ambitious equality programme of conferences that attracted leading women from 22 Arab countries in the fields of medicine and health, education, business and government. Debra returned to Canada in 2014 and created Thousand Islands Festivals & Events as a non-profit organisation that promoted Gananoque as a toursist destination by creating an annual programme of culinary, sports, arts & culture and literary events. Debra returned to Ottawa 2016 and has taken on a number of roles working for the Government of Canada.
