About Debbie Millman

Named \"one of the most creative people in business by Fast Company,\" a \"woman of influence\" by Success Magazine, and “one of the most influential designers working today” by Graphic Design USA, Debbie Millman is an author, educator, strategist and host of the podcast Design Matters. First launched in February of 2005, Design Matters is now one of the first and longest running podcasts in the world. The show has been awarded a Cooper Hewitt National Design Award, a Signal Award, nominated for two Ambie Awards, 10 Webby Awards (winning two) and Apple Podcasts designated it one of the best podcasts of 2015, 2022 and 2023.Debbie’s writing and illustrations have appeared in The New York Times, Washington Post, Philadelphia Inquirer, Time Magazine, New York Magazine, Baffler, Afar, Fast Company, the NYRB and more. Her artwork has been exhibited in the Boston Biennale, Chicago Design Museum, Anderson University, SVA, LIU, Wolfsonion Museum, Czong Institute for Contemporary Art and acquired by the Smithsonian. She has been artist-in-residence at Cranbrook University, Old Dominion University, Notre Dame University and SUNY Oswego. She has collaborated with brands and created bespoke products for and with Seth Godin, One Kings Lane, Mohawk Paper, DeckStarter, Shutterstock, Baron Fig, MerchAid and many more.Debbie was President, Design at Sterling Brands for over 20 years where she worked with more than 200 of the world’s largest brands, including Burger King, Haagen Dazs, Tropicana, Star Wars, Gillette, Kleenex, and more.In her own practice, Debbie has worked with The Broadway Museum, NASA and the JPL, Lamba Legal, the Department of Justice, and more.Debbie is a frequent speaker and has presented keynote lectures at Design Yatra in India, Rotman School of Management, Princeton University, Yale University, Hong Kong Design Association, TypoBerlin, Melbourne Writers Festival, Festival of Art+Design in Barcelona, ING in Dubai and many more. Her TED talk has over two million views and was named one of the top 10 talks of 2020.Debbie is the Editorial Director of PrintMag.com and The Rumpus. She is board member of the Joyful Heart Foundation, Canva, Letterform Archive and The Art Directors Club. She is President Emeritus of AIGA, author of eight books and co-founder and chair of the world’s first graduate program in branding at the School of Visual Arts.Most recently, Debbie was appointed an Executive Fellow at the Harvard Business School where she has worked to co-create a new course, The Business of Ideas, which debuted in Fall 2025.
