ABOUT DEBBIE COYNE

What can I do for you?I work in the ever changing and complex area of employment law. I work for both private sector organisations from PLCs through to SMEs in various industries, public sector clients, universities, further and higher education colleges, charities / not for profit organisations and GP practices.I have a particular interest in defending employment tribunal claims and undertake some of my own advocacy, but also regularly advise client’s on a wide range of complex HR issues (e.g. disciplinaries, grievances, redundancy, reorganisations/restructures and changes to terms and conditions) and work alongside our corporate team on corporate transactions. Supporting my clients’ ambitionsIt is an essential part of my role to not only identify all the legal issues for clients but to also offer advice specific to their business needs, objectives and approach to risk. I recognise that there are often commercial considerations that will impact upon the steps and decisions taken by a client in any given situation and aim to provide comprehensive advice to allow clients to make informed decisions and to deal with issues effectively. A highlight of my work is assisting clients in defending tribunal claims. A recent case I am involved includes highly sensitive and confidential matters, whistleblowing, constructive unfair dismissal, disability discrimination, harassment, territorial issues and religion or belief discrimination. This case is highly complex and has everything from legal advice, tactical and commercial advice, drafting complex documents and dealing with the sensitivity of the issues. What do others say about me? Clients say that I am approachable and friendly, with clients appreciating my prompt turnaround on queries. Clients also comment on my pragmatic and practical approach to problem solving and helping make a complicated matter easier to understand. I like my clients to feel that I am part of their extended team.
