About Deborah C. Waters
My law practice focuses on two main areas: maritime law and labor and employment law.
Experience
Attorney at Law, Proctor in Admiralty
Mar 2011 — Present · Norfolk, VA, US
My law practice concentrates on two basic areas. First, it focuses on maritime law matters and, in particular, on claims of people who are injured at sea or other navigable waters. Second, it emphasizes representation of labor unions and their members who work in the maritime industry and overall and efficient operation of marine terminals. My maritime law practice is varied but focuses primarily on cases for men and women who were hurt while working aboard ships or vessels of any kind. Those maritime cases include claims for compensation under the general maritime law, for maintenance and cure, and for unseaworthiness; for claims under the Jones Act, Death on the High Seas Act, Public Vessels Act and the Suits in Admiralty Act. I also represent small vessel owners and people who own small businesses that may have a relationship to maritime business activity. The labor law component of my practice is active and varied. I represent labor unions for contract negotiations, grievances, election compliance, Department of Labor issues, National Labor Relations Board, and EEOC matters. I also represent employees, employers and trade unions for issues regarding employment agreements, wages, benefits, covenants not to compete and cases brought before the Equal Opportunity Employment Commission. I love what I do everyday and am privileged to serve the good people I represent.
