ABOUT DEB NELSON
I am an experienced Market Analyst / Marketing & Communications / Data Analytics / Business Development professional. I studied at the University of Calgary Haskayne School of Business earning an MBA, as well as a certificate in Indigenous Relations (2020). Following business school, my focus shifted from tactical to strategic marketing. I research and analyze markets, companies and industries to gain a clear picture of the business environment, issues, trends, competitors, opportunities, consumers, influences, etc, then translate these insights into a foundation to build business strategy and sales plans. I create in-depth, strategic business plans for companies seeking financing. For several years I sub-contracted to Concord Business Plans analyzing industries and creating business plans & pitch decks for clients sourcing financing from private investors or planning an IPO. I specialize in technical markets. Cryptocurrency, advanced robotics, stem cell therapies and the metaverse are recent examples. For over ten years I worked as a Strategic Market Analyst contracting mainly to resource companies - 6+ yrs onsite Business Development Dept, Teck, Trail Metals Operations. I have spent significant time with base & specialty metals, electronic waste/scrap, energy and precious metals industries. Other clients include public and private organizations in technology, health & wellness, economic development and energy generation, etc. I currently consult with several junior mining companies in an Investor Relations context. I am a skilled researcher (primary & secondary) which I use to develop contacts and analyze markets, industries and companies. In my Business Development work I have been successful at building strategic networks on behalf of clients - establishing relationships and alliances with target companies and individuals around the world. I performed the roles of Corporate Communications Officer at the electric utility FortisBC (contract) and Senior Advisor (contract) to the Marketing & Aboriginal Affairs and Alternative Energy divisions of the BC Government, Ministry of Energy, Mines & Petroleum Resources. While with Government, I managed the first intake of the $10 M Innovative Clean Energy fund. CAREER HIGHLIGHT Performed the market feasibility for a primary metals smelter to enter the global market of electronic scrap processing. Analyzed raw material sources, volumes, market structure, competition, etc. Established upstream and downstream strategic alliances which led to LOIs critical to obtaining approval of the $200 million project.
