The Department of Civil and Infrastructure Engineering, IIT Jodhpur was established in 2017 with the holistic approach to introduce sustainability with technology, and offers academic programs since 2020. The Department focuses on creating the next generation of engineers who will play a pivotal role in addressing the crucial challenges faced by our nation and society. Academic courses are designed shifting the focus from traditional civil engineering to “infrastructure engineering” integrating conventional elements of civil engineering with advanced transformative technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Cyber Physical Systems (CPS), and Internet of Things (IoT). The intention is to prepare students for the whole life cycle of an infrastructure facility, rather than just the detailed design phase, and also find solutions to problems which will improve the quality of people’s lives such as clean water, sanitation systems, waste management, energy solutions, and pollution control.
