About Debjani Mandal
Debjani Mandal is a PhD scholar at the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, IIT Delhi. She completed her BTech+MTech dual degree in Biotechnology from KIIT, Bhubaneswar, in 2025 and gradually built a diverse academic journey shaped by curiosity and hands-on learning across multiple domains. She worked as a Research Intern at the School of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, IIT Jodhpur, in the Cognitive Brain Dynamics Lab, where she explored emotional signal processing using EEG data and studied the aperiodic and periodic components of electrophysiological signals during emotional responses under naturalistic viewing, with this work forming a part of her Master’s thesis. She also undertook a research internship at NIT Durgapur in the Department of Electrical Engineering, contributing to a phantom-based study on Electrical Impedance Tomography for brain imaging, which strengthened her practical understanding of neuroimaging techniques. Her exposure to the clinical side of brain and behavior came through her internship at Pavlov Institute and Hospitals, Kolkata, where she studied modern clinical psychology and psychiatry and assisted in recording patient case histories. In addition, Debjani gained experience in quantum dot synthesis and biosensing technologies during her training at SynBiogenesis, completed advanced training in cosmetics and perfumery, and worked at Larkai Healthcare on a project focused on detecting heart-related issues using data-driven approaches. She is particularly interested in work that connects biology, brain science, and real-world healthcare applications.
