ABOUT DEBBIE C.
I am a specialist in trans and non‑binary domestic abuse, leading Trans Without Abuse at My CWA since 2023. Trans Without Abuse is the UK’s only regional by‑and‑for service, and I’m proud to have played a part in building something that centres safety, dignity and identity‑affirming support for our community.Having transitioned in 2012, I’ve seen a societal shift in attitudes towards trans folks from ambivalence to outright prejudice, this shift drives me. I share my journey openly as a trans woman because I want people to know that we can live our truths, take up space, and thrive.I offer kind, compassionate and person‑centred support, whether I’m supporting people impacted by domestic abuse or working as a counsellor‑in‑training and hypnotherapist in a therapeutic setting. My practice is grounded in trauma‑informed, identity‑affirming principles, with the aim of making people feel seen, heard and safe.I believe everyone deserves to live a life free from abuse, and everyone deserves access to services that affirm who they are.I’ve achieved things in my working life that I’m deeply proud of. I qualified as an IDVA in 2025. I designed Live Free, the worlds first online domestic abuse recovery programme written specifically for trans and non‑binary survivors. I’ve trained extensively in domestic abuse, trauma, and behaviour‑change approaches, including work with both survivors and those who harm. My work is helping to strengthen the support for communities who are often discriminated against. At my core, I’m a people‑centred leader, and I’m proud of the woman I’ve become. If I make people’s lives a little better for having come into contact with me, then as far as I’m concerned, I’ve played my part in making the world a kinder place.
