About Debanjan Chandra
I am Debanjan Chandra, and I have recently joined as a postdoc in the SHARP project at TU Delft. I have recently completed my PhD from the Department of Earth Sciences, IIT Bombay, India where I worked to understand the gas storage and migration behavior in subsurface shale and coal reservoirs for enhanced gas recovery and CO2 storage applications. By combining reservoir permeability with rock mechanical properties determined using uniaxial and triaxial tests, I attempted to quantify reservoir stability during enhanced hydrocarbon recovery. I also used gas adsorption as well as X-ray and neutron scattering to assess the gas storage capacity of shale and coal reservoirs which were further validated with 3D X-ray CT and 2D electron microscopic imaging. At TU Delft, I will primarily work on quantifying the deformation behaviour of reservoir rocks under changing stress conditions during CO2 injection through laboratory experiments and further populate the understanding to field scale applications through numerical modelling. The final goal of my research is to predict the long-term performance of the reservoirs for enhanced hydrocarbon recovery through CO2 injection and facilitating a reduction in carbon footprint.
