About Deasia Valdemar
I am a Junior at Stony Brook University pursuing a degree in Psychology with concentrations in Biology and Chemistry. My passion lies in understanding how neural connections in the brain shape behavior, particularly in neurological and psychiatric disorders, and how these conditions impact cognitive processes. I aspire to become a Clinical Neuropsychologist and pursue a PhD in Clinical Psychology to advance research in neuropsychology across the lifespan, bridging clinical insights with neuroscience.

Apart of the inaugural cohort of the Simons STEM Scholars Program- Awarded a 4-year full merit scholarship supporting underrepresented students pursuing STEM and Ph.D. pathways- As a scholar in the Simons STEM Scholars Program, engaged in an intensive 6-week summer program designed to prepare students for the academic and personal demands of college in STEM disciplines- Collaborated with peers to create a supportive learning environment, fostering a sense of community and leadership- Attended various research faculty talks and workshops across and outside campus including at Brookhaven National Laboratory, Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, and the Flatiron Institute focused on the path to the PhD, research projects, and gaining insights into research careers and advanced studies in STEM.
