About Deanna Hanson
Ms. Hanson has operated a successful consulting practice since 1984. Her practice specializes in facilitating strategic planning with various community based organizations, foundations, associations and corporate entities. She also conducts organizational assessments and evaluations and provides executive coaching for management team members. She often assumes responsibility for leading specific projects and initiatives for clients. Ms. Hanson has been involved in work with public high schools to help improve student outcomes, a personal passion. This has included work associated with high school restructure, charter school development, and creating employer partnerships to provide real world experiences for students. In the past few years Ms. Hanson’s as worked with the National Academy Foundation, a 30 year old organization headquartered in New York City, with almost 500 highly functioning career themed academies. She has helped implement work-based learning and corporate engagement strategies for the academies and school districts. Deanna was CEO of a not-for-profit business/education intermediary in Sacramento – Linking Education and Economic Development (LEED) for several years. In that role, Deanna co-led a collaborative team to implement the Carnegie Schools for a New Society high school restructure initiative using themed small learning communities in all the Sacramento City Unified School District’s comprehensive high schools. The effort also included opening several small high schools funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Deanna has also been heavily involved in youth development initiatives aimed at maximizing community resources to involve youth and improve their opportunities for success. She helped form a partnership with the Forum for Youth Investment to implement the Ready by 21 process in Sacramento and created an organization to drive that work – Youth Development Network.
