Responsible for managing projects from conception to completion on time and within budget, leading skilled teams, extraordinary customer service and retention through phone and digital channels, and built a following as a sewing instructor. I handled all of the normal (and extraordinary) duties of Shop Manager with aplomb! Pincushion was a sewing centric warehouse in the heart of the arts district. We catered to show business insiders and everyday people with any need that we could solve. From initial design briefs, fiber choice and acquisition of notions, through fittings and embellishments, we provided top notch services to the region. From accurate large scale soft goods, uniforms, bridal magic, minor alterations, mic belt packs, costume crafts, to full scale head to toe theatrical wearables. Favorite projects include bench and chair upholstery, adding patches to battle jackets both denim and leather, industrial embroidery and theatrical draperies. There was also a retail component which provided fashion patterns created by small independent designers, notions, fabrics by the yard and fun relatable gifts. As a community service, we provided free sewing instruction to volunteers who made dog and cat beds for local animal shelters which were stuffed with our remnants and off cuts to keep that waste out of landfills. I loved solving problems, working closely with our diverse team and even more diverse clients, and the opportunity to work alongside our industrious neighbors in the shared warehouse space and developing lasting friendships!
