I started my career in Industrial Parts Cleaning when I left school in 1996 when I joined Safety Micron Systems. This company was bought by Safetykleen in 1998 and I’ve been with them since, apart from a 4 year stint with a competitor. Based in Bristol, I have clients across the South West, in a diverse range of industrial and manufacturing sectors, from Transport (Aerospace Rail and Automotive), Pharma, Food and Drink, Printing & Packaging, to light manufacturing, fabrication, and the repair sector.With my experience and consultative approach I look for opportunities to improve cleaning of parts and equipment across the manufacturing process. I’d say I’m good at asking open questions and listening in order to understand a process. I like to find out what people on the ground are experiencing, listening and probing for potential improvement areas, where I and Safetykleen can improve performance in 3 main areas.Productivity – an example of this is automated washing systems, replacing manual washing. Manual washing involves a lot of manual handling of components, especially in a multi-stage wash process. The water and alcohol hotwash system I justified to the light fitting paint shop is a prime example of a productivity benefit. Quality – major suppliers in eg. Aerospace are demanding high and consistent quality standards. I helped an Airbus component supplier to comply with quality requirements by developing a partnership with them for the supply of suitable cleaning systems.Compliance - health and safety standards around solvents can be expensive to comply with, if respirators are required, for example. An automated aqueous system, such as the system I introduced at a resin moulding company, overcomes many of these issues.
