I am an skilled trial attorney with significant jury trial experience in business litigation and a trusted business advisor and negotiator for my clients. My 42 years of practice includes complex business cases and transactions, intellectual property disputes, technology claims, licensing and software audits and insurance coverage cases. I have successfully tried high stakes cases in a variety of contexts, and have expertise prosecuting and defending significant alter ego and successor liability cases. I have also successfully tried probate, trust and fiduciary misconduct cases, including will contests. I am also an effective and experienced advocate on behalf of lawyers and other professionals facing admission, misconduct and licensing disputes. My experience as a former deputy general counsel for a top 50 US law firm includes defending clients in disciplinary actions, investigations and sanctions procedures brought by regulatory agencies, including the California State Bar and various courts. I have also represented tenured faculty at major universities and research institutions embroiled in institutional investigations and charges of research misconduct, including claims and publications involving defamatory and reputation damaging allegations. My experience also includes litigation and settlement of Public Records Act disputes and governmental transparency claims. My experience spans all of the state and federal courts in California, and across the country. I have an exemplary record in jury trials, and my experience includes bench trials, arbitrations, mediations, injunctions and evidentiary hearings. I am experienced in all phases of litigation, including injunctions, post-trial proceedings, appeals and extraordinary writ practice.
