ABOUT DEAN CHEN
I am a student at the University of Toronto double majoring in Neuroscience and Cell and Molecular Biology with a minor in Philosophy. My studies and experiences fuel a deep interest in healthcare, where I am passionate about exploring the intersection of scientific knowledge, compassionate patient care, and community impact.Throughout my academic journey, I have gained valuable skills and insights by taking on diverse roles. In my volunteer work, I’ve mentored first-year students and supported at-risk youth, honing my communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills. I’ve also learned to build strong, empathetic relationships with individuals in challenging circumstances, providing guidance, support, and encouragement. My role as a volunteer in the MAUVE Program at Mount Sinai Hospital has helped me develop critical interpersonal and caregiving skills. I engage directly with older adults at risk of cognitive and functional decline, learning firsthand the significance of patient-centered care and the impact of holistic, compassionate interventions on recovery outcomes.Additionally, I’ve been involved in several extracurricular leadership roles, such as serving as Social Commissioner for the New College Student Council. These experiences have strengthened my event planning, team collaboration, and organizational skills, all of which are essential when working in dynamic, high-pressure environments like healthcare. I am committed to expanding my knowledge and skills in healthcare, with an eye toward making meaningful contributions in both research and clinical settings.Driven by a desire to continue learning and growing, I am excited to further explore the healthcare field and leverage my diverse skill set to improve patient care and outcomes.
