ABOUT ANDRE ANDERSON
Andre Anderson is an award-winning African Nova Scotian filmmaker, creative executive, and community leader using film as a medium for change, healing, and inspiration. Beyond the screen, his leadership extends into community initiatives — from developing mental wellness projects to breaking political ground as one of the youngest African Nova Scotians to run in both federal and provincial elections. His achievements include being named one of Atlantic Business Magazine’s 30 Under 30 Innovators and winning the Halifax Innovation Challenge twice. Over the years, Andre has directed and produced films that have screened in theatres and festivals, been selected as a TEDx speaker and UNESCO Storyteller, and led youth media programs that nurture the next generation of creators. A storyteller at heart, he believes film has the power to shift culture, preserve legacies, and amplify underrepresented voices — especially those rooted in African Nova Scotian history and identity. Andre’s work explores themes of memory, social justice, and transformation, situating his artistry within the larger movement of Black Futures and Black Futurism. Through documentaries and narrative shorts, he examines the realities of Black life in Canada while creating space for imagination, hope, and possibility.
