About Dhyan Patel
I am Dhyan Patel, pursuing PhD in Mechanical Engineering at Texas A&M University. I study Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning & Refrigeration (HVAC & R) system and have built particular interest in energy management in buildings.Academically, towards the end of undergraduate I had developed interest in building energy use and building thermal loads, which has continued into my graduate studies at A&M. I am focused on applied thermodynamics with application in the HVAC & R field. I have completed courses covering fundamentals of thermodynamics, building thermal load calculations, building energy modelling and calibration, energy savings measures, energy use measurements and Continuous Commissioning (trademark of ESL, TEES). Research wise, my master thesis is on control strategy for operation of humidifiers and economizer of Air Handling Unit of large commercial buildings to maximize use of free energy while minimizing energy consumption from humidifier. In the professional field, during master’s program, I did an internship at Lennox International, USA with projects on creating and maintaining database of test data at the company test-rigs, and improve a Virtual Test Bed (VTD) to simulate economizer operation for residential building. Additionally, I work with Building Performance Assessment Center (a part of IAC, US DoE) to perform commercial building energy use measurement and operation assessment to provide recommendations for better maintenance and improving energy use efficiency.Beyond my formal experiences, visiting industries and interactions with the professionals has immensely helped me to co-relate classroom learning with real-world industry operation and bottlenecks. These experiences have provided me with direction for my research and assisted in my career planning.Overall, I am passionate about the field of energy because of its immense potential for improvement. I would love to connect with you to discuss innovative ideas, share experiences, explore collaboration opportunities, or consider potential employment.
