ABOUT DAWSON ERIKSEN
My name is Dawson Eriksen, and I am an activist, educator and academic working between High School and University settings. I am particularly interested in the question of meaning-making, and understanding how humans apply existing frameworks to new experiences. Working within, between, but mostly around the disciplines of Religious Studies and Cultural Studies, I study Postmodernist French Philosophy, American Evangelical \"Gay Conversion Therapy,\" and The Franco-Belgian bande dessinée. I have developed and taught curricula at the High School and University level on Comic Book Interpretation; Identity and the French-language comic; and Civic Engagement through Narrative. I am an aspiring educator who is interested in teaching all kinds of students, with a particular focus on Special Education and complex education settings (military bases, prisons, and refugee education). I fervently ground my teaching in civic engagement and ethical responsibility. While my academic work trends toward the theoretical and dense, I always search for ways to connect what I am writing to what I am teaching and ensure that those two mediums are in service of the greater good.I am seeking opportunities in education, public service, advocacy, and fields seeking to return us to our humanity via the arts, dialogue and/or activism.Let’s keep learning and growing!
