About Dawn Yamane Hewett
Dawn Yamane Hewett is a litigation, arbitration, and investigations partner at Quinn Emanuel, one of the world\'s leading disputes firms. She draws on decades of experience in policy and international affairs and her prior service as a Deputy General Counsel of the U.S. Department of Commerce to represent clients in high-stakes disputes both in the U.S. and across the globe.Dawn is a recognized expert in investment arbitration and cross-border commercial disputes. She has extensive experience with disputes administered by the world\'s major arbitral institutions, both as counsel, and as a member of the Court of Arbitration for the Abu Dhabi International Arbitration Centre (arbitrateAD). She represents clients in a broad range of industries, including renewable energy, natural resources, transportation, infrastructure, hospitality, manufacturing, consumer goods, and financial services. As a Japanese, Spanish, and Portuguese speaker, she has deep experience with disputes involving Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean, and Europe. Dawn also represents clients in government and internal investigations and advises clients on regulatory matters. She has represented clients before most of the large government agencies, including antitrust and consumer protection matters before the Federal Trade Commission and state attorneys general and national security matters before the U.S. Departments of Commerce and Treasury. Dawn\'s comprehensive approach to client representation combines her trial instincts with her deep insights into government agencies and policymaking to offer strategic solutions at all stages of a dispute.Dawn holds advanced degrees from Yale Law School, Princeton University’s School of Public and International Affairs, and Trinity College Dublin, and undergraduate degrees from the University of Washington, where she was the Student Body President. She also clerked on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and worked at the Truth and Reconciliation Commission in Sierra Leone. Dawn is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (FCIArb), an Executive Committee member of the Foundation for International Arbitration Advocacy (FIAA), a U.S-Japan Council (USJC) Council Leader, and a US-Japan Leadership Program (USJLP) Fellow. She is a past president of the Asian Pacific American Bar Association of Greater Washington, DC (APABA-DC) and the current Chair of the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association (NAPABA) Leadership Advancement Program, which develops rising mid-career AANHPI leaders in the legal profession.
