As an artist and a committed educator of design, I have found the research on cognitive development and multiple intelligences extremely useful. I am particularly interested in Howard Gardner\'s research in neuroscience, education, and creating minds as well as Kurt Fischer and his research on cognitive science and human development. Connecting education to a learner-centered environment has been my commitment as a tenure-track educator. Unleashing \"the creativity\" within a young artist is my passion and I gather inspiration from the saying \" The mind is like a parachute, it only functions when it is open.\" This is the challenge as an educator, opening the mind of the student, and presenting ideas and concepts in ways that are inspiring and motivating. I have found that many of our students arrive from educational cultures that value rote, ritualized, or conventional student performance. The transformative approach to education is about being in service as a coach to evoke certain qualities or understandings in the students, by creating specific challenges, posing questions, and placing the student to work out their own ideas. Learning and teaching are a developmental and transformative process and Art and Design provide rich opportunities to develop and transform learning. I feel real change occurs through creative individuals and the development of perceptual acuity. My goal is to create new thinking in the educational environment that directly affects the creative development of our students. The use of scaffolding, content-based instruction, questioning, discovery learning, project-based learning, and problem-seeking pathways in a creative and innovative way allows students to find new ideas and skills and discover who they are and what their strengths are along the way.

ABOUT DAWN MARIE FORSYTH
As the Creative Director of DAFOMAstudios since 2013, I have been supporting the development of design thinking and aesthetic philosophy for various creative endeavors. My mission is to empower individuals, organizations, and academic institutions to unleash their creativity, express their identity, and explore their cultural context through mindfulness coaching, listening, and guidance. With over 30 years of experience in higher learning education for creative industries, I have a diverse and rich background in fashion design, textile design, visual arts, and leadership. I hold an MFA in New Practices, a BFA in Fashion Design, and a certificate in Mind, Brain, and Education from Harvard Graduate School of Education. I am also a skilled public speaker and trainer on topics such as creativity, artistic process, cultural trends, identity, fashion, design, and object making. I leverage my analytical and innovative thinking, my problem-seeking and project management skills, and my human-centered and inclusive approach to visualize and deliver solutions that meet the latent needs, behaviors, and desires of diverse communities and personalities.
