ABOUT DAWN WALTER
I’m a professionally-qualified content designer, with over twenty years’ experience of creating customer-centric content for digital products across mobile and web interfaces. My passion to understand and represent the user in everything I create is why I studied anthropology—for a deeper understanding of people and society. My anthropology degrees (BA, Masters) also mean I have formal experience in user research design and delivery (mixed methods research including ethnography).I became increasingly interested in user-centred design (UCD) in 2003, and in 2004 formally qualified as a technical communicator when I completed my Graduate Diploma in Technical Communication (writing, research, usability, and content project management). In 2006 my interest in people and society prompted me to return to university to study Social Anthropology, graduating with a First Class Honours degree, and culminating with a Masters in 2015.I\'ve worked as a senior technical writer in small entrepreneurial start-ups and global corporations in a range of sectors including IT, electronics, telecommunications, banking, accounting, and healthcare. When I returned to England in 2017 after 20 years in NZ, I established a research consultancy, Mundy & Anson. I passionately believe social anthropologists have so much to offer the technology and business community. The company delivered projects, grounded in social science, to help companies connect more effectively with their customers through a deeper understanding of their behaviours. My many responsibilities as the Managing Director included all the aspects of managing a limited company (financial management, payroll, business development, etc) as well as managing three university interns, and designing and delivering research projects.I also founded the Response-ability Summit in 2018 (formerly the Anthropology + Technology Conference), which brought together social scientists and technologists working on emerging tech to foster dialogue and collaboration across the disciplines. My many conference hats included curating the speaker line-up and programme, marketing, social media, and content writing as well as interviewing interesting people for the Response-ability.tech podcast. https://response-ability.tech.I am an Elected Fellow of the Royal Anthropological Institute, and a member of the European Association of Social Anthropologists (EASA).
