ABOUT DAWN EMERSON
I am an Assistant Professor for the Kinesiology and Physical Education program at the University of Maine. My primary research focus is on exertional heat illness risk factors and understanding how these different factors affect a person\'s thermoregulation. I\'m highly interested in exploring the impact of poor sleep and nutrition, pre-existing medical conditions, and medications (non-steroidal anti-inflammatories, mental health medications, etc.) on the gastrointestinal tract, immune system, kidneys, and/or cardiovascular system. Another research goal of mine is to continue to raise awareness of health risks within marching band artists and advocate for them to have access to on-site healthcare providers, such as athletic trainers. I have diverse teaching experiences within athletic training; however, my main interests are in general medical conditions, pharmacology, and exercise physiology.
