ABOUT DAWN FRANCIS-JONES OHSCR

The main aim of my role is to ensure that with my colleagues in the Human Resources Division we create an environment that is both safe and healthy for our staff, learners, visitors, suppliers, contractors and neighbours. The implementation of which is underpinned by detailed policies and procedures, designed to achieve the highest possible standards.The role of a positive safety practitioner, which I consider myself to be, is someone who leads the maintenance and promotion of workers’ occupational health, working capacity and working environment so developing working cultures that promote a positive health and safety social climate.I hold a strategic role reporting to the Executive Director Of Human Resources Mark Jenkins, collectively our emphasis is maintaining health and safety compliance and competency thus contributing to continuous professional development of health and safety necessities within South and City College Birmingham. The Health and Safety priority in my role is to identify potential hazards based on the current operation of the Health and Safety Management System within the College and consider potential affect’s and to work to promote efficient delivery of changes and the promotion of existing excellent good practice.It is also an on-going process of managing risks, being competent in specialist areas which impact on the provision of premises and facilities that comply in the provision of health, safety and welfare.South and City College Birmingham of further education have duties that are legislatively controlled under educational statute also. The Health and Safety Policy and Procedures must therefore embed the learning ethos of safeguarding children and ensure that we adopt procedures that not only protect employees but also the learner within our environment.
