About Dawn Attride

I am the first Irish female to study at NYU’s Science, Health and Environmental Programme in its 40 years of existence. My interests include reporting on the latest developments in healthcare and biology, as well as covering environmental issues.Before coming to New York, I was the magazine and features editor for The University Times, the world’s best non-daily student newspaper as judged by the US-based Society of Professional Journalists. I am currently interning at Sentient Media and previously interned at Retraction Watch. I have also interned at The Nationalist and Irish Arts Review, in writing and engagement roles, respectively. Now, I serve as the managing editor at Scienceline. I am also freelancing for publications like Inverse, Science, STAT, Grist, and Container.In 2023, I graduated from Trinity College Dublin, with an honours degree in Microbiology. In my final year, I wrote my thesis on \'Antibiotic Resistance in Dairy Farm Environments in Ireland\'. During my undergraduate degree, I also spent four months studying at McGill University in Montreal, Canada. There, I completed an extensive research project investigating trained immunity in macrophage progenitor cells at the RIMUHC alongside a wonderful team at the Divangahi lab. For my academic pursuits, I was shortlisted as the \'Female Undergraduate of The Year 2022\'.During my time at Trinity, I availed of many extracurricular activities. I believe that STEM subjects should strive to be more inclusive, and advocated for this in my writing, and collegiate positions. I was the Women in Property chairperson for Dublin Real Estate society, and also the class representative for my course.
