ABOUT DAVID MARSHALL

I am a Design and Technology educator and STEM leader based in Scotland, specialising in high-performance learning, curriculum development, and industry-linked STEM experiences. As a teacher of Graphic Communication, Praxtical Woodworking and Design & Manufacture, I focus on raising attainment through evidence-informed pedagogy, structured assessment, and clear alignment with SQA standards. I lead professional learning across West Lothian as a CDT Network Lead, facilitating data-driven collaboration between schools to improve outcomes at National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher.Alongside my classroom practice, I lead a highly successful STEM Racing programme (formerly F1 in Schools), where learners engage in engineering, branding, project management and enterprise at a competitive international level. My teams have achieved national success and represented Scotland on the world stage, developing young people with the skills, discipline and mindset required for modern industry. My work sits at the intersection of education and industry. I build partnerships with businesses to create authentic learning experiences, secure sponsorship, and provide pathways into engineering, design and technology careers.Key areas of expertise: • Curriculum design and attainment strategy (BGE → Senior Phase) • SQA assessment and standards (N5, Higher, Advanced Higher) • CAD/CAM and digital design (Autodesk, Fusion 360, Affinity Suite) • STEM programme leadership and competition delivery • Sponsorship, partnerships and enterprise education • Professional learning and system leadershipI am driven by a simple principle: young people achieve more when expectations are high, learning is purposeful, and opportunities are real.
