About Davonte Green
My journey began in the classrooms of Watts, California—where I served with AmeriCorps City Year, helping students navigate systems that too often overlook their brilliance. That early frontline experience shaped everything that came after. I saw potential wrapped in struggle, joy inside the chaos—and I knew then that my life’s work would center healing, leadership, and liberation for Black men and boys.Over the last 15 years, I’ve built a career at the intersection of mental wellness, youth justice, and systems transformation—from public schools and state prisons to boardrooms and barbershops. My focus has remained constant: empower those closest to the challenge and equip them to lead change.Today, I serve as Director of Community Investment & Engagement at the California Community Foundation, helping drive place-based strategies for a $2 billion institution. I lead regional initiatives that translate listening into action—building resident-led advisory structures, investing in local brilliance, and ensuring philanthropy is accountable to the people it serves.Previously, I served as Program Officer for Youth Development, overseeing a countywide public-private partnership that invested over $50 million into organizations advancing positive youth development and alternatives to incarceration. That work wasn’t theoretical—it was personal. I know what it means to navigate poverty, housing insecurity, and systems that punish instead of support. That experience fuels my resolve and sharpens my strategy.I’m also the founder of The Giants Den, a national leadership development network that supports men in building the futures they’ve never seen modeled. Through transformational workshops, elevated gatherings, and public speaking, we help men redefine strength, accountability, and legacy—while creating space for emotional growth and collective healing. Before entering philanthropy, I led community engagement efforts at the Black Emotional and Mental Health Collective (BEAM)—helping shape national narratives around mental health in Black communities and advancing a healing justice framework across movements and institutions.Whether I’m facilitating strategy sessions, investing in grassroots leaders, or mentoring the next generation—I carry both the data and the dignity of my people with me.If you’re building equitable systems, championing youth, or reimagining what care can look like in our communities—let’s connect.
