ABOUT LEANNE DAVIS
Having recently graduated with Distinction from my MSc in Psychology at the University of Nottingham (2025), I am proud to be working as an Assistant Psychologist within the Adult Learning Disability & Autism team at Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.After a rewarding career in film and television as a writer–director, I made a deeply personal transition into mental health care. My journey into psychology is shaped by both rigorous training and lived experience: caring for my mother through early-onset Alzheimer’s, navigating grief and suicide within my family and community, and supporting neurodivergent loved ones. Being a mother of two further grounds my empathy and commitment to this work.My clinical approach is trauma-informed and rooted in the understanding that trauma is an embodied, relational experience. I work with particular sensitivity to shame, dissociation and emotional safety, and I am especially passionate about trauma recovery, abuse support, addiction, women’s mental health, and mood and anxiety disorders. At the heart of my practice is creating safe, empowering spaces for those who have experienced stigma, isolation or systemic barriers.Alongside clinical work, I have a strong interest in research. My MSc thesis used Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) and EEG to investigate Short Afferent Inhibition in healthy ageing, and I achieved 88% in Research Methods. I value rigorous, thoughtful research that meaningfully informs practice.Looking ahead, I am driven by a desire to contribute to a broader cultural shift within healthcare — one that restores credibility and agency to patients, particularly women whose experiences have historically been minimised or misunderstood. I am interested in how complex life transitions, trauma and systemic factors shape both mental health and clinical decision-making. My hope is to support more integrative, compassionate systems where diagnostic uncertainty is met with curiosity rather than dismissal.Ultimately, I believe that when people are given language, knowledge and psychological safety, shame diminishes and autonomy grows. Through clinical work, research and advocacy, I aim to help individuals understand their experiences, trust their bodies and live fuller, more self-directed lives.
