ABOUT VINI COWDEN

I am a Partner in CMS’s leading global Energy, Projects and Construction practice, advising on complex energy and infrastructure projects across the UK and internationally. My practice spans the full lifecycle of major projects, combining deep regulatory knowledge with strong transactional and contentious experience. I advise private sector clients — including developers, investors, funders and contractors — as well as public sector bodies, on the delivery, operation and financing of strategically significant energy and infrastructure assets.I have particular expertise in electricity transmission and interconnectors, offshore wind transmission assets, subsea HVDC cables, and carbon capture and storage, and am regularly instructed on projects that sit at the intersection of regulation, construction and long‑term asset operation. Alongside energy projects, I have advised extensively on PFI, NPD and hub transactions, including schools, hospitals, waste and rail infrastructure, bringing a pragmatic, solutions‑driven approach to complex delivery and operational challenges.A defining feature of my career has been working inside the industry. I completed an 18‑month secondment to SP Energy Networks, working closely with the legal team and business on electricity regulation and the RIIO‑2 price control review, followed by a part‑time secondment to Storegga Limited, supporting the Acorn Project — a full‑chain carbon capture and storage development, including hydrogen generation. These roles give me a strong understanding of how legal advice is best delivered within regulated energy businesses.I am known for being calm under pressure, technically rigorous, and commercially focused, with a strong emphasis on building long‑term client relationships and trusted adviser status.
