About David Steinwedell
I’m an award winning real estate and investment veteran and an 16-year Austinite tackling the Texas\' moderate-income affordability challenge that affects teachers, first responders, medical professionals and others. Texas’ rapid growth—and the unintended displacement of its core workforce that is being priced out of our cities—led to the idea that the private market can act as the most agile solution to preserve workforce housing affordability while providing a return to investors. That idea was the impetus for the founding of the Austin Housing Conservancy Fund in 2017, an open-ended private equity fund that invested directly in Austin’s workforce by preserving existing affordable multifamily housing. The Fund has now been renamed the Texas Housing Conservancy Fund to reflect our expansion to other major markets in Texas. The Fund is managed by the Texas Housing Conservancy, a nonprofit that provides solutions to affordability issues in Texas. As Board Chair of the Texas Housing Conservancy, it’s my goal to apply private equity best practices to the growing field of impact investing. The Fund now stands at close to 2,200 units across 14 properties totaling $400 million with capacity to serve hard working families and individuals. In 2024, we plan to purchase at least four additional properties to bring our unit total to over and prove that our private market solution can become the scalable model for other communities facing similar challenges.I am available to discuss potential for-profit and non-profit board opportunities. Currently, past Chair and Executive Committee member of Rally Austin (preciously the Austin Economic Development Corporation) and Advisory Board - ULI Austin and Advisory Board Member - Central Ohio Housing Connective. Specialties: Affordability and Social Impact Investing. Real Estate fund and company management for high net worth, foundation and institutional investors. REIT, LP, Fund and Nontraded REIT structures. Board of Director service. Board of Director Leadership, Acquisitions, dispositions, capital markets, debt, equity raising, and asset and portfolio management. Strategic planning, new product development, capital stack structuring, property redevelopment and fund management.
