ABOUT DAVID ROBERT LOWE
As someone who never touched a line of code until their second semester at Simon Fraser University (SFU), I am passionate about promoting resilience in the tech community and helping others fight feelings of imposter syndrome. Through my work as the co-president of SFU Surge, I do exactly that by working with others to organize workshops and speaker series dedicated to helping students hone their tech skills in a safe and inclusive space. I am a strong believer in lifelong learning and am always looking for ways to challenge myself and expand my comfort zone. Whether overcoming my fear of public speaking by emceeing assemblies in high school or facing the challenges of social anxiety through collaborative group work on both business and technical projects, I constantly put myself in intentionally stressful situations to learn and grow. Joint majoring in business and computer science at SFU, I’ve had many opportunities to develop both my interpersonal and technical skills. At the Beedie School of Business, I’ve honed my critical thinking, leadership, and teamwork skills at case competitions like Peak 2021 where my team placed third. At the School of Computing Science, project work has made me familiar with Python, C/C++, Java, HTML/CSS, and JavaScript. Outside of class, the learning never stops as I continue to forge a path for myself in tech by expanding my technical portfolio and repertoire.
