ABOUT DAVID MILES
Hi, I’m David. I\'ve been navigating the high seas of BigLaw for over a quarter of a century and became a partner for the first time in 2012. I think that is something that is typically described on LinkedIn as \"a proven track record\" in a “high performance environment”. Several clients have referred to me as a “trusted adviser”. As various books on how to be important in the legal industry say that is what one should aspire to be, being told I was one made me happy. From project finance to lev fin to general lending to Islamic finance and most other lending structures in between, I’ve got the experience and expertise to help craft bespoke financing solutions that address the specific needs and challenges of my clients. When practicing law, I spend most of my time advising borrowers, sponsors, banks, ECAs and procurers on complex cross-border financings. This is predominantly, but not exclusively, in the energy and infrastructure space. If you are interested in this sort of thing and are active in the Middle East, you may know me from such recent transactions as Warsan Waste-to-Energy in Dubai, ADNOC Pipelines Galaxy II in Abu Dhabi, Umm Al Hayman Waste Water Treatment in Kuwait and the SATORP Amiral expansion in KSA. Those in the know have been kind enough to decide that a number of those were a “deal of the year” and recognise my involvement.I’m now based in my home city of London. However, over my career I have also plied my trade by the fragrant harbour of Hong Kong, in the neon lights of Tokyo, among the skyscrapers of New York, and under the desert sun of the UAE. All this galavanting around has given me a truly global outlook. As well as being a lawyer, I am also a human being. When not wading through loan agreements, I can be found doing things like hiking up mountains, practicing Krav Maga and trying to buckle 3 children into car seats (the jury being out as to which is the most physically demanding activity).I am also studying part time for an MA in national security studies and I am a martyr to the almost continuous writer’s block I suffer on the middle grade adventure story I am writing (think a heady blend of sibling dynamics, swashbuckling, a WW1 flying boat, lots of fog and a pinch of Scillonian folklore). To round things off, I am a Welsh rugby fan. This keeps me both humble and (albeit not always as much as I would like) entertained. Tresco is my happy place*.*Tresco is not a typo, I am not a supermarket obsessive
