ABOUT DAVID LOVETT
To me, engineering is about making things work as well as they can, as simply as they can – and that’s what I’m passionate about. I’ve been in the business for most of my life, and in Advanced Process Control for the last 25 years. After starting off in nuclear I moved into control engineering for power plants, and travelled the world commissioning Advanced Process Control Systems. I was MD of Perceptive Engineering, a company I co-founded in 2003 and ran for 17 years until our acquisition by Applied Materials in 2020. The Perceptive products, now integrated into Applied Materials SF Rx CIM, seek to improve Operational Excellence in manufacturing – and bringing Advanced Process Control out of oil and gas, and into other industries. We’ve helped many high-value manufacturers use model-based monitoring and control engineering to boost Overall Equipment Effectiveness, and the benefits are clear: • Higher yields • Better quality • Lower costs • Reduced energy use Over the years we’ve worked with the like of Pfizer, GSK, Unilever, Novartis and BP. So we know from experience that model-based monitoring and control can improve effectiveness and efficiency almost exponentially. It’s an issue that’s relevant to almost every sector, but particularly salient from some. Take pharma: a properly optimised system in this sector will reduce time to market – and that brings even bigger benefits. Our services break down into four key areas: • Perceptive software to monitor live data streams, model processes, fix issues and boost OEE • Perceptive solutions based on turnkey systems combined with training and consultancy • Perceptive Feasibility Studies to identify savings and create a clear business case • Perceptive innovation, collaborating with R&D teams to develop new projects and pilot them. We offer a complete integrated service, or pick-your-own modular products and packages at scalable costs. Either way, our world-class team of engineering professionals will guide you through every part of the process.
