About David Batts
I am an Associate Professor in the Department of Technology Systems at East Carolina University. I am also the Program Coordinator for the Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology (BSIT). I serve on multiple committees with the Department and College and at the University level, including the University Curriculum Committee. I also serve on Editorial Boards and as a Reviewer for multiple peer reviewed academic journals. My service extends to multiple professional organizations as well as Phi Sigma Pi National Honor Fraternity, where I have served on the national level numerous times and as the Faculty Advisor for the local Chapter since 1997.The BSIT is a degree completion program for technical and industrial related Associate in Applied Science (AAS). This was once considered (and sometimes still considered) a terminal degree and graduates of these programs would have to start over at a four year institution to acquire their Bachelor degree. As the Program Coordinator for the BSIT, I have helped to improve and grow the degree program. I began my role as Coordinator in 2005 and the enrollment in the program was at 170 students. Through leadership and cooperation both at East Carolina University and the North Carolina Community College System, I have removed barriers to admissions and ensured maximization of student credit transfer. Currently, the BSIT has over 650 students and our graduates are excelling in the workforce and creating positive economic impact in North Carolina and beyond.I teach primarily, Industrial Supervision (Leadership) and Industrial Safety courses. For me, the student comes first and I put a special emphasis in my courses that not only educates the student on the course material but prepares them for work and life. My success as an Educator is the success of my students and I take great pride in their accomplishments.
