Hi I\'m DavidI believe that tech is going back to generalists and I\'m making sure I\'m at the forefront of the change. It will determine every hiring decision, training and growth that I make as a manager.I started my career over twenty years ago. Back then, we didn\'t have a frontend and backend split. You mostly coded on the server-side with a bit of jquery here and there.Then around 2009 I saw that the tech scene started to specialise. The rise of Rest APIs and JSON meant that we created a divide. We split people into Frontend and Backend, and we did so for good reason. Rich powerful frontend libraries such as React and Angular were coming of age. User experience jumped massively. The web came alive. I loved itBut now frameworks like React have become platforms that can serve the frontend and backend. Serverless architectures enable deployment at scale. Libraries like HTMX allow any backend platform to be create the same rich frontend experiences. Open API means clear and understandable APIs can be integrated.So all those that used to be a specialist backend or frontend engineer needs to relearn the things they used to know. The basics - HTML, CSS, Vanilla Javascript. How to design a database schema, how to write a SQL query. How to manage infrastructure. And how to leverage AI to an engineer\'s benefit rather than trying to get it to do the job for you
