WORK HISTORY
Founder @Strength Matters
Cardiff, GB
Besides chief dream maker at Strength Matters, James Breese is an author, speaker, podcaster, and vlogger. Born and raised on a farm in mid-wales, he\'s always had a passion for team sports and speaking foreign languages. Educated at Cardiff University, he studied French and German and completed a master\'s in computer science. Deciding against life in the corporate sector, he went in search of something more adventurous. He joined the Metropolitan Police Service, starting his career in Brixton, London.Always the adventurer, it was during his time in the Met that he realized his true calling lay outside the police. He left the police in 2012 as his love for the mountains, snowboarding, and health and fitness became clear. Since forming Strength Matters in 2015, he\'s been on a mission to help everyday athletes over thirty lose weight, get stronger, and live better. When he\'s not on an airplane or speaking on stage, you\'ll find James in the mountains of Wales or Austria, living the everyday athlete lifestyle. And when he\'s not in the mountains, you\'ll find him drinking coffee, going to the cinema, listening to live music, playing cricket, and watching his beloved Wales rugby and Manchester United soccer teams with friends. You can connect with James on Instagram @jamesbreese or visit his website, jamesbreese.com.

ABOUT JAMES BREESE
I don’t just coach athletes. I design governed performance systems.I work with athletes and organisations who are done guessing and want performance that holds up under pressure. As a Performance System Architect, I replace subjective cues and disconnected training methods with evidence-constrained Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) that govern how performance is built, not just how it is chased. My work sits at the intersection of clinical biomechanics, strength & conditioning, and technical skill development. The objective is simple: ensure that technical performance is supported by verified physical capacity, movement integrity, and biological resilience. The Technical Objective. Most performance models pursue results through more volume, more intensity, or more sessions. That approach fails when foundations are unstable. Performance is a dependent variable. When movement quality, tissue capacity, and load tolerance are not engineered first, improvements are temporary and injury risk increases.I build durable athletes by stabilising the system beneath performance so output can be expressed repeatedly, under fatigue, and under match pressure. One System. Two Applications.I operate a single, assessment-led operating model across two entities:• Cricket Matters – Clinical performance engineering for cricket. Coaching, physical preparation, and injury management are integrated into one governed framework so technique holds up in competition and athletes remain available throughout the season.• Strength Matters – Systemic foundations for long-term athletic resilience. This work focuses on movement integrity, physical capacity, and durability to extend performance lifespan, not just short-term results. Why Governance Matters. My background in Computer Science at Cardiff University and my time with the Metropolitan Police Service instilled a non-negotiable respect for systems that function under pressure. I now apply that same operational discipline to human performance.Whether I’m working with a 15-year-old fast bowler or an international athlete, the process remains consistent:Assess → Diagnose → Build → Integrate → Monitor → Repeat.Clinical Standards & Practice. All performance systems are assessment-led, data-informed, and governed by clinical safety standards.• Level 4 Sports & Remedial Therapist (LCSP Assoc. Member)• ECB Cricket Coach• Active Athlete – Wales Over 40s & Cardiff CCI am committed to building athletes who are not just better prepared for today — but structurally built for longevity.Better Every Ball.
