About David Lau
Began as Manufacturing Engineer in the plant for Front Axle Assembly on 2 assembly lines. Moved to a neighbouring plant and assumed responsibility of 3 assembly line, 1 transfer machining line, 17 horizontal machining centers, 1 shaft machining line, and a welder/balancer. Promoted to Senior Process Engineer and transferred to Corporate. Sourced, installed and launched a fully automated drill and tapping vertical machining centers. 3 machines each with a robot loading the machine along with 100% gauging of threads and key dimensional features. Sourced, installed and launched a fully automated aluminum carrier machining line on near dry, horizontal machining centers. These 21 machines used no coolant, only an oil mist, and were driven using linear servo motors versus ballscrews driven by a traditional servo motor, which allowed for rapid moves twice as fast. These machines were all robotically loaded. One robot would load either 2 or 3 machining centers depending on cycle time of the operation. Sourced, installed and launched a lean, low cost assembly line for Power take-off units (PTUs). Designed for lower cost countries but with no comprimise to quality of the assembly.Specialties: Productionized Machining Center, Driveline Assemblies, Gauging - Balancers, NVH Testers, Dynamic and Static Gauges, Equipment Launches, Guide Product Designs for Manufacturability
