About David Johnson
Atlas Oncology Partners exists for a very simple reason - to make it a good business model to deliver the best possible outcomes to patients with cancer. We leverage value-based payment models to align the incentives of payers and providers around delivering the care experience that patients with cancer deserve - proactive, responsive, compassionate, multi-dimensional, flexible, and truly patient-centered. Rubicon Founders is an entrepreneurial firm focused on building and growing transformational value-based healthcare companies. Our focus is on creating entities and partnerships that enable specialists to succeed under risk-based, alternative payments by delivering high value care. As Clinical Operating Partner, I provide additional clinical, public health, and alternative payment model expertise to complement the team of business, investment, and technical professionals. I was also on the founding team of Atlas Oncology Partners. In my previous role as Medical Director of Value Transformation at Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina, the state’s largest commercial payer, I led our specialty value based care strategy, provided a clinical perspective to the design of alternative payment models, facilitated collaborative partnerships with clinicians, health systems, and professional societies, and implemented innovative care delivery models that improve the value of specialty care delivery across the state. As a Clinical Assistant Professor with the UNC Department of Urology, I provide direct patient care, train residents medical students in clinic and the operating room, and support clinical and health services research endeavors.I have an academic background in economics, public health, and health services research in addition to clinical training in urology and sub-specialization in urologic oncology. The topics of my prior research experience and publications include value-based payment models, surgical outcomes, cancer screening, quality, utilization and appropriateness of care, overdiagnosis and overtreatment, and shared decision-making.
