About David Burden
Organizational Consultant | Learning & Development Strategist | Helping Leaders Turn Strategy into Behavior I’m an author, facilitator, and organizational consultant focused on how patterns of behavior shape the way we work—and how reshaping those patterns can create healthier, higher-performing organizations. For more than 15 years, I’ve worked across state, county, and city government, healthcare, justice, and corporate/Fortune 500 environments. That cross-sector view helps me connect what’s decided in the boardroom with what’s actually lived on the front line. My work lives at the intersection of learning and development, performance psychology, and organizational change.Through UnBurdened LLC, I partner with leaders who want strategy, culture, and behavior to align. I help executive teams translate vision into observable behaviors, managers turn “change initiatives” into daily leadership habits, and frontline teams adapt to new expectations, systems, and ways of working. I don’t believe culture shifts through slide decks or slogans. It shifts when people understand why behavior occurs, what reinforces it, and how to intentionally redesign those reinforcement patterns over time. That requires clarity, psychological safety, and systems that make the right behaviors easier and more natural. As a trauma-informed practitioner, I design learning experiences that protect dignity while stretching capability. I focus on psychological safety, resilience, and emotional agility—so people can stay grounded under pressure, remain curious in conflict, and navigate ambiguity without burning out. I’m especially interested in the future of work: hybrid and remote teams, cognitive load, identity and role strain, and the invisible emotional labor many professionals carry. My contribution is helping organizations see the behavioral patterns underneath those challenges—and giving them practical ways to experiment, learn, and adapt. If your work touches organizational learning, leadership, or culture, I’m always open to conversation, collaboration, and exploring better ways to build organizations that are both more effective and more human.
