I am a multifaceted communications strategist with 15 years experience in public/media relations, crisis communications, change management and journalism.I currently serve as Senior Director, Communications for the national office of Volunteers of America, one of the oldest and largest human service nonprofits in the United States. My work spans the corporate, nonprofit and governmental sectors, and I thrive on telling the stories of those whose lives have been positively transformed as a result of my organization\'s efforts.In a previous life, I worked as a newspaper reporter in Atlanta covering public education and politics, among other varied topics. Manage external and internal communications for Volunteers of America\'s national organization. Plan and execute ongoing media relations, paid advertising, social media and other marketing efforts aimed at communicating Volunteers of America’s mission. Media placements include those in USA Today, The New York Times, The Washington Post, Huffington Post and The Chronicle of Philanthropy.• Coordinate crisis communications strategy as needed, working with teams that include affiliate communications staff, legal counsel and C-level executives throughout the organization.• Oversee marketing staff at 32 Volunteers of America affiliates to coordinate national communications initiatives and strategy, ensuring consistent branding and messaging throughout the organization.• Manage ongoing marketing relationships with corporate and government partners. Ensure that marketing requirements and project goals related to these partnerships are fulfilled.• Orchestrate annual panel discussions at the National Press Club aimed at identifying solutions to problems faced by vulnerable communities including homeless veterans, low-income families and frail seniors. The events attract approximately 400 attendees annually and have introduced Volunteers of America to a number of new funding partners, resulting in almost $8 million in new revenue.
