ABOUT DAVID BROMELKAMP

I am the founder of AdvisorSmart, an investor-education and consulting platform designed in 2018 to help individuals, families, and organizational leaders learn how to select financial advisors, lower their cost of financial advice and obtain better financial advice. When I retired in 2025 after a 37 year career as a financial advisor, I began to focus all of my attention on helping consumers to select financial advisors. Through AdvisorSmart, I focus on consumer protection, fiduciary education, and advisor-selection frameworks that empower investors to understand how financial advice really works—before they hire an advisor. My work is grounded in decades of experience as a fee-only financial advisor which is a financial advice model that is intentionally independent of product sales, commissions, and conflicted compensation models.AdvisorSmart services include:Investor education through books, articles, and online courses that teach consumers how to evaluate financial advisors, compensation models, and fiduciary obligationsAdvisor selection consulting for individuals and families, professional trustees and nonprofit organizations seeking objective guidance in choosing a financial advisor aligned with their best interests.Financial advisory fee reduction services.Speaking and educational programs for professional audiences, nonprofit organizations, and consumer groups focused on fiduciary standards, fee-only financial planning, and investor decision-makingResearch and thought leadership on fiduciary duty, advisor compensation, regulatory standards, and best practices in financial adviceAdvisorSmart was created to address a persistent gap in the financial services industry: most consumers are never taught how to select a financial advisor or how to assess whether advice is truly in their best interest. My work helps investors ask better questions, recognize conflicts of interest, and make more informed decisions about financial advice.I continue to support this mission through ongoing research, publishing, public speaking, and collaboration with professionals who share a commitment to transparency, fiduciary responsibility, and investor-first advice.DM me if you would like to learn more about how you can select a financial advisor, lower your financial advisory fees and to get better financial advice.
