ABOUT DAVID WILLIAMS
I received my undergraduate degree from Utah State University in psychology with a minor in Spanish. While in my undergraduate program, I interned and eventually was employed at the Cache Valley Detention Center working with residents through mental crisis situations. I then went on to earn my master’s degree in clinical psychology from Idaho State University. I completed my internship at the Bannock Youth Foundation counseling adolescents and families. Later I was accepted into the counseling masters program at ISU and was able to get the courses completed to get my LPC and eventually my LCPC.During my sixteen years of employment with the Bannock Youth Foundation, I addressed the needs of at-risk youth and developed and managed a suicide hotline. This hotline inspired me to want to further help people in these areas. I have experience with a wide variety of client populations. My specialties range from anger management groups, counseling for at-risk teens, and experience with individuals who suffer from schizophrenia and extreme mental illness and also mild symptoms of depression and anxiety. Substance Use has been a specialty as well.I have provided counseling, drug court, and advocacy for persons with addictions and substance use. I also have facilitated multifamily groups for English and Spanish speakers. Throughout my time working with adults and adolescents, I focus on strength-based and person-centered approaches with my clients. I believe in motivating the client and helping them find their passion in life. I use dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), ACT as well as other evidence-based treatment modalities with my clients.I have a passion for working in sports psychology, specifically with sports injured athletes. In my spare time, I have enjoyed coaching my kids in fastpitch softball, football, and basketball while they grew up. Now my adult children and I, like to travel, run races for charity, ski, and paddleboard.
