ABOUT DAVID WHEELER

Over 20 year\'s experience in the genomics field and have participated in all of the large national projects involving DNA sequencing from the finishing of the human reference genome to the construction of the human haplotype map, genomes and The Cancer Genome Atlas project. I\'ve worked with Sanger capillary sequence data, and have been instrumental in the development of methods for analyzing sequence data from each of the commercially available instruments (LifeTech, Illumina, Roche 454, PacBio, and Oxford Nanopore). I was the lead author on the analysis of James Watson\'s genome, the first human genome to be sequenced by a second generation sequencer. The heart of the Human Genome Sequencing Center, flagship of the fleet are 14 Illumina X Ten, which can sequence up to 2,500 human genomes per month. The X Ten is augmented by 8 HiSeq 2 MiSeq, PacBio Sequel and 2 Oxford Nanopore MinIONs. In March we procured a NovaSeq The breadth of instrumentation in our Center gives us a bird\'s eye view of the sequencing landscape. We have sequenced over cancer patients in the past 8 years in addition to larger cohorts of normal and disease human populations. More recently I have analyzed in great detail NGS DNA and RNA sequence from dozens of individual cancer patients in a research capacity to demonstrate the capability of NGS in designing treatments for patients.
