About David van Hoogstraten
Since December, 2018 I have served as Supervisory Associate General Counsel of the Peace Corps for policy development. This involves overseeing the agency\'s policy development and approval process. I also advise the Office of Congressional Affairs.* From July of 2018 until December of that year I co-founded the Climate Judiciary Project (now part of the Environmental Law Institute) to provide federal judges with a background in basic climate science.* Prior to that, beginning in April 2013, I directed federal environmental regulatory affairs for BP America in Washington, D.C.* Beginning in April 2010, I was Senior vice President of BP Wind Energy North America Inc. for Policy and Regulatory Affairs based in Washington, DC.* Prior to BP, I was Counsel to the global law firm of Hunton & Williams LLP (Now Hunton Andrews & Kurth) in the environmental and energy group.* I joined Hunton in 2005 after 14 years in the U.S. government where I served as Deputy Associate General Counsel at EPA, as a senior lawyer and policy adviser at the US Department of State and as an Associate Director at the White House Counsel of Environmental Quality (CEQ).* Earlier in my career, I worked as an associate attorney at two major law firms in New York and Washington, D.C. and as a Senior International Counsel for Pepsi Co, Inc.* I graduated with a BA, Magna Cum Laude with Honors in English and Political Science, from the University of Pennsylvania and have a law degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. I completed my third year legal studies at NYU Law School in New York, NY.
