ABOUT DAVE U.
I grew up in the middle of nowhere between Fergus and Belwood, Ontario, spending summers drawing comic books with my brother, biking to the lake, and exploring the countryside. Winters and cool evenings were for 90s TV, music, and early computer games. At school, I was a class clown who had trouble focusing, a trait that I would eventually learn was ADHD. My favourite times were when I could go on the class computers or do art. Art was the one subject where I excelled, and with my grade 8 teacher\'s encouragement, I began to see it as more than a hobby. When my mother passed away from cancer when I was in high school, art became how I processed grief and made sense of life.Years later, when my children were diagnosed with ADHD, I came to terms with my own diagnosis. That realization reshaped how I understood myself and deepened my empathy for how differently people learn, process, and navigate the world—reinforcing my belief that design can be a unifying force, one that bridges gaps and helps people connect.This perspective guides everything I do. Whether it\'s building an interface for someone under stress, creating visuals that communicate across abilities, laser engraving products that bring joy to people\'s lives, or illustrating ideas that add personality and fun to communication, I believe thoughtful design is the difference between a barrier and a bridge. That\'s why I love collaborating with other designers and teams: the best solutions come from working together to make ideas more human.
