About David Tanzer
I have a passion for using geography to help people understand the world in a different way. I love that geography is so versatile, and the aspects I enjoy most include using geography to help the environment, connect people to the planet in new ways and using geospatial data to solve problems. For the past six years, I have worked in Silicon Valley for major mapping technology companies. I have had the opportunity to help identify and fix problems in the maps, work on mapping points of interest, create and implement new training curriculum for new hires and solve difficult and complex data problems. I love being able to help revolutionize the way we solve problems and see the world by using geography and all that we can learn from it.In December of 2010, I graduated from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh with a Bachelor of Science degree in Geography with a global insights emphasis. My courses included various disciplines, such as urban planning and sustainability, besides the cartography, biodiversity and math and science classes you would expect. Some of my strengths include: math skills, interpreting and analyzing information and researching to develop advanced ideas for presentation. My geography degree has taught me to consider all sorts of data and information and compare, combine and reconfigure it into actionable, usable presentations or reports. Of course, my degree work also included the spatial and map skills most people think of when they hear geography. Prior to earning my degree, I worked in many settings: factories, sales (in person, phone and retail), all sorts of jobs in restaurants (server, bartender, host, cook, bus boy, dishwasher, etcetera), lab assistant, janitor, and until 2011 worked for United States Postal Service as both a mail carrier and a clerk. My varied job experience gives me insight into the ways many different types of businesses work and allows me to apply innovative ideas to diverse situations.
